What are some treatments for Marfan's?
While Marfan's cannot be cured, there are many ways people with the disease can still live healthy, productive, comfortable lives. With doctors appointments, physical therapy, and medication people can lessen the severity of some of their symptoms. Sometimes these preventative measures are not enough and surgery may be required.
Day to day treatments include
- Early diagnosis
- Protection of bones and ligaments
- Awareness of how your body normally feels and recognizing if something feels wrong/different
Emergencies and Surgeries
Due to the widespread effects of the disease on the body for some individuals, emergencies and surgeries may be sometimes required. Emergencies could include problems involving the heart, eyes, lungs, and joints. Surgeries for these parts may be required.
- Hearts could require a valve reconstruction or additional types of operations
- Eyes could require a dislocated lense to be put back in place or a different type of surgery could be required for another complication
- At any point a lung could collapse and would need to be reinflated by a doctor, possibly with surgical assistance
- Joints could sublexate, or possibly dislocate, resulting in ligament, tendon, or other structural tears resulting in the need for bracing and possibly surgery to correct the issue
